Default Tuning an 88

I have an 04 Electraglide with SE aircleaner and SE slip-on mufflers. I bought it this way and the original owner was not very mechanical and he didn't know if it was flashed by the dealer for the upgrades or not. I had to ask him as the bike was lean popping and running a little hot. The dealer is now out of business so I can't go there. I spoke with my local stealer and voiced my concern over the harley download for those upgrades and asked him if the remap was the best option as I had heard that some bikes still ran hot and popped on decel. He told me they would download the 96 inch map and My bike would run perfect. I guess my question is why would the 96 air fuel ratio be any richer than the 88. All fine and good if it is, just not sure which route to go. I am not interested in expensive auto tuners and aftermarket injection modules but if I have to go that route to cool it down and make it run right I will

get it tuned...a 96 tune is a fatter tune because it does require more fuel at all points. Free flowing exh. and higher flowing air filter gives more air and moves the air more efficiently therefore needing more fuel to maintain the proper air/fuel ratio. your ride will be a little rich but without o2 sensors, you wont have the perfect afr the motor really needs. it is better to be fat than lean!
