I'm fairly sure I want to get a J&S Jack. Is that "Frame Protector" or "Shock Protector" thing required for lifting Softails? I know HD sells them for their own lift, but many have said that they are unnecessary. Any first hand experience out there on this combo? Thanks.
I've heard you don't need them but I use them anyway. Better safe than sorry. J&S included them with my jack. Don't recall if I asked for them or not.
The ones I have are just 1/2 thick rubber pads. They can be a pain to get into position so something that clipped over the rails would probably work better.

Great jack! I just put a pair of heavy duty quick ties over the pads and they haven't budged in three years.
I'll tell ya what...... they were just at Tomahawk Fall Ride doing demonstrations and everything you see on their website I got to see in person.
He lifted a 2010 Ultra in the air fully extending the jack, didn't strap the bike down. He then climbed all over that bike like it was a jungle gym.... he even hung off the front of the bike and sat down on the front fender.... that sucker didn't MOVE!
I have had mine for 5 years.. I lift my Ultra, and my wife's Deluxe without adding anything to the jack. The rubber pads that come pre-installed on the jack is all I have ever used and never had any problems.
Its absolutly the BEST Motorcycle Jack I have ever worked with.
I have had my J&S for 4 years. No problem lifting my SuperGlide. I have had several Softtails and an Ultra on it with no problems. I did have a leaking bottle this year, but they sent me a new bottle at cost. I use it for all my maintenance and store the bike on it during the winter. Great product and super company to do business with!!
I got the HD "frame protectors" (U-shaped, orange) and use them when I lift my Deluxe. Although I have also heard that you don't need to, I just don't like the idea of all that weight resting on the sides of the shocks.
