They have more of a standard boot heel and are super comfortable. I use them for riding and as my general purpose work boot. Chippewa offers a full rebuild service for something like $50 too, so when you wear them out, you can save some money by just having them rebuilt.
I've owned Red Wing boots in the past, but not the 2990. We worked in a MN grain/feed/fertilizer elevator and our Manager supplied footwear from Red Wing and they were extremely durable under harsh conditions. We were constantly in muck, mud, chemicals, slop, etc. and I didn't really do much care - other than hosing off. These things lasted forever and all I remember doing was getting a heel replaced once so I've always been a Red Wing fan. Maybe try to find the 2990 cheaper somewhere, but definitely worth the $$$.
Redwings are made in the USA, right? Most Harley clothing is made in China.
I've worn 501s, a Shott Perfecto, Redwing engineer boots and the tee-shirt of the day since forever. As in 1961. Works for me and I buy as little as possible from China.
Red Wing's are made in Red Wing MN...usually pretty darn good boots.

Red Wing motorcycle style boots are now made in China. Levi 501s are no longer made in the USA. Other than the Schott, what else you got?
I have an old pair of HD steel toe engineer boots, probably at least 15 years old. I don't know which model or where they were made but they will not wear out, either the leather or soles. Just sayin'.
I have always had very good service with anything by Harley.

I do not know where they are produced HD Big Sur Boots ... in China, Taiwan or elsewhere. The label reads that are manufactured by Wolverine, on order and under the control of H-D.
I will say again that these are great boots and their only problem is that they are too heavy for walking.
In the accident, my foot was between the motorcycle and asphalt more than 3 meters. Boots has been destroyed, but my foot no damage. I think this is the supreme test

Engraved Rebellion: Inside Bundnerbike's Glam Rock II
It broke my heart the other day when I had to cut some Redwings of a rider that crashed. I tried hard to salvage them but one of his legs was pretty messed up. I will say that the leather was top quality. I myself use Rocky paratrooper 7" boots. They lace up the front but have a side zipper for easy on and off. Like any leather boot, even if it gets wet just let it dry and it won't stink like synthetics.
