Default Boots vs. Boots

Got a question about boots

Until now, I rode with H-D Big Sur, but after a minor incident, the right boot is in pretty bad shape.
Now I have to buy new boots ... and varies between Red Wing Engineer No. 2990 and Harley-Davidson Men's Big Sur Boot... again.

VS

Big Sur are not bad, their only problem is that they are very heavy ... but their price was half of Red Wing ...

Some of you have experience with Red Wing No. 2990? Whether it is worth to pay this $ 230?

I tried on a bunch of HD boots at a recent gathering. Though some were nice, none compared to my old Danner Acadia 21210's. the nice thing about these is if you wear out the sole, they can be re-soled by any shoe repair shop.

I don't have experience with the Big Sur, but I do have experience with H-D boots and although they were comfortable to wear, the soles wore out in a year. After that I bought a pair of similarly styled Carolina boots, made in the U.S.A. with Vibram soles for $166 from Shoebuy.com. I would recommend these over the H-D boots any day. They are just as comfortable, but wear much better. Buy a the Red Wings or other good U.S.A. made boot. You'll ultimately happier with them in the long run.

I prefer boots without laces. And I want to be high to keep my leg from the hot pipes.

Yes, look at Chippewa boots, even if I had 11" few years ago.
The problem is that heel is too high and I do not feel comfortable.

I have these same boots. (Big Sur) I bought them locally for 150.00 then found them on the net for 118.00. They fit ok but have found them to be cheaply made. I can see enough light through the seams to read by and my feet get full of dirt because of it. I quess it is that Stamp that says "Made in China" that causes this. And yes I just pulled one off and checked the stamp.

Redwings are made in the USA, right? Most Harley clothing is made in China.

I've worn 501s, a Shott Perfecto, Redwing engineer boots and the tee-shirt of the day since forever. As in 1961. Works for me and I buy as little as possible from China.
