Default head porting

back in the 80s i used to do some head porting on the side for people,, on chevy and ford heads,, so recently i had my harley heads professionally ported after looking at them , i won a set of 07 heads on ebay and went to work on them, anyone handy with a dremmel or a die grinder can also do this, you dont have to make the ports larger that would hurt your low end,as bean said just look down the port and be the air in these pics they are still in the rough stage, rite now i am sand blasting the combustion chambers so i can polish them, and then use 80 grit sanding rolls on the intake ports and make the exhaust ports as smooth as i can to prevent carbon build up,, take note of the guide bosses just narrowed them the same diameter as the guides

I have polished a few small block Chevy heads for our race car, and as you said anyone (that's willing to take the time) can do it, I am just not ready to try on the heads for my bike, perhaps if I had another set it would be game on. Also you can cc the combustion chambers yourself, many youtube videos out there on it, the most popular way is to sink the valve a little deeper, but you can also remove a little meat from the combustion chamber to make the two (or 4,6,8, what ever) match.

Been doing my own stuff for years. It's all about port matching and bowl work, also the 85% rule. The port just below the seat should be 85% the diameter of the valve.Polish the combustion chamber breaking all sharp edges, helps eliminate spark knock. Most important is not to take too much material.
