Ive had my 120 apart twice now, it is not a bullet proof performance motor at all! Im having Jim's rebuild the fly wheels now and weld the crank pin, hopefully third time is the charm. With that being said, when it is running, it feels as if you are ripping pavement off the street as you launch out of a light!! I'd say even with all the head-aches I've had with this motor, it still makes me smile thinking about what a ripper it is when it's running good. I've heard that the newer generation 120 kits are more reliable and that the failures are way less frequent, plus I run it hard.
I'm glad I ran across your thread. I found an 05 UC with the 120 jims. He said he ordered it that way at the dealers and ran it hard and had the lifter/cam trouble and ruined his engine. He said he took it easy with the new motor and has 35,000 miles now. I asked him also about the front motor mounts which were also a problem then and he had replaced them. It looks showroom and he wants $10,000 for her. I love to travel and don't like to walk! Lol
There is a guy here in my hometown that i was talking and saw at the stealer last weekend that put the 120R in a brand new ultra limited, says his 103 is sitting in the garage.
Anyway he also said that along with the other things added in previous posts that he also had to change the starter.
Has anyone in here ever gotten to 15k on a motor this size before it pops ? I'm curious .....
According to s&s,head-quarters,hillside, and others yes. However, these types of builds are sometimes rode hard and when ridden to the limits things tend to break.

Only thing the S&S boys ever said to me was " We have it stable " , that statement didn't inspire a lot confidence on my side of the phone call you know .

I would add another 5k or so to get the brakes and suspension at least reasonable to handle that power. Just sayin'
yup, and another 5 K for all the belts you'll blow up. Why in hell would anyone need a 130 HP harley? Doesn't make any sense at all to me. But then, what do I know?
The 120's were made by Jim's, thats why they were only available through an HD dealer. As far as I know, the components are still a Jims product. As far as this new 120R, even if Harley is milling the cases, the peripherals are most likely Jims.
