Since changing my cams out a few months back Ive been feeling the clutch slip every once in a while. Its worse when I have my wife on the back. Can the clutch spring be changed out through the derby cover or does the primary cover need to be taken off? I just want to know what gaskets to get so maybe I can complete this in one trip to the parts counter. I have an 09 Dyna.
I had the dealer do mine when they were fixing my clutch hub bearing but I asked this same question and was told that you have to pull the outer primary cover.
Thanks for the info. I was just double checking. When I went to the dealer to get the spring the parts man said to do it by the book I needed to take off the primary cover. I just wanted to check that he wasnt just trying to sell me the 30$ gasket along with the spring.
Pull your clutch discs out, clean them off & mike them for thickness. ask your dealer if your bike can fit one extra steel.
You can replace your clutch disc's with a more aggressive grip type for around a hun. Easy to do, they just pull out!

Ill have to look into that.
Could be several reasons for the slippage...
1 how U ride
2 the oil Ur using...
1- Usually mellow but once in a while Ill race stop light to stop light.
2- Amsoil 20 50
Ive read here that some guys have had their clutch slip after the cam swap and some dont. The SE clutch spring usually fixes that. Ive already had the clutch readjusted with no help.
I threw in a -98A clutch spring in mine as opposed to the SE. The SE is a heavy pull and the -98A is a 330 lb compared to the 300 lb stock one they put in now.

You aren't the first one I've seen complain about slippage after putting motor oil in the primary.
Try some Redline MTL or ATF type F, before ripping your bike apart.
You might get lucky, if not you can proceed with the spring swap.
Easy enough to try and might save you some wrenching.
