motorcycle toolkit
what i do is anytime i do any maintenance on my bike, i use my bike tool kit. if its something that i would conceivably do on the side of the road, and my kit doesn't handle it, then i add the necessary tools to do it.
i would rather find out any shortcomings in my garage than on the side of the road.
and items that may or not be considered 'tools', but are pretty darn nice to have:1. A small spool of steel wire.... I had the backstand underneath fall down and create awesome sparks one night... I had no idea it was broken to begin with (My bad... not checking the bike well before riding....) There's always the possibility of needing to wire something back, tight and secure.
2. Spare chain and chain breaker and master links... oh yes.... Have used this, fo' sho'....
3. Spare set of points, condenser, plugs
4. Length of rubber hose for fuel... use it for that or sticking spark plugs, pointy end first into
5. Flashlight. Don't forget this!
6. Credit card, cigarette lighter...cell phone and charger.... and.... do NOT think you are going to do anything to a bike tire like this when you have a flat in the middle of bum-f&%k Arkansas or elsewhere....It's a myth... There is NO amount of Fix-a-flat or anything to keep the circling natives at bay or the bike back on the road when you go on the side of the road at 9 at night.... You will NOT leave the bike there overnight... you will call a freakin tow.... Make sure the phone is charged and you have the ability to charge it if need be.
It wouldn't hurt at all if you had a concealed weapons permit and were armed and aware of laws where you were...
"Tools" is a broad topic...
Lotsa considerations...Regards,

Okay... after thinking about it, I realize my reply was not on topic to the OP... sorry bout that.... I have a skewed perspective on the "tools" vs "Parts" thing. My bad...

For the Vulcan? It has a small, kinda sorta useful set, but I run with another, just usual bunch of put-together tools... Nothing on the Vulcan demands a lot of attention, but again, Aleen wrenches comes to mind as somethin I seem to always be short of....

I keep a list in the front of my service manual too that way I'm not chasing back and forth going from SAE to MM.

The Windzone kit is pretty comprehensive, however the quality of the tools pales in comparison to the Snap*On.
