Default Windshield cutting

Hello friends. Any of you have experience with this?? If so, what was your preferred method and technique?? Vertical band saw, hand held jig or scroll saw?? How did you protect the rest of the windshield during the process?? Thanks fellas.

I've done it without any problems, so have others on here. Do a thread search for "cutting a windshield" and you should have plenty of good info.

I cheated - used a local glass company..... cost $20.00. and they polished the edges.

I also did the You-tube method this spring on my softtail. Worked out great, no problems, the windsheild cut good with a jig saw. So much better looking over the w/s then through it.

That video was a great example of the right way to do it. Even if you don't have all those tools, as long as you have the jigsaw you can do it yourself using hand tools for sanding. I for example used a D/A instead of vibrating sander because thats what I have and it works for me.

maybe i'll try this with the memphis shades 'rio grande' i got used on ebay... tried it one time and not only was buffeting worse than with the shorter del rey I got...but looking through the shield was a horrible experience (seriously thought about laying it on the side of the road and coming back to get it later...was really bad). I think the rio cut down about 4" might be the good balance between the two, just looking to extend my riding deep into winter if possible
