Narrowing down choice for new winter jacket. Down to Vanson Comet, Drifter or Harley FXRG. Any of you have these? What can you tell me? Is the Vanson Comet too heavy for casual riding? Is the Drifter too light weight? Is liner need in them for riding in 50 degree weather? Thanks for the help. It's a big purchase.
I have a Vanson Challenger jackets which is cut in a racing tuck which is fine on a sportbike, not so fine on a HD and the space in the elbows is HUGE - the Comet looks to be a similar cut. You'll like the FXRG jacket though, it will keep you way warmer than either of those Vansons and includes a removable liner. You might also want to look at (dare I say it).................Fox Creek. Cue FC haters.....LOL
Vanson Leathers is one of the finest companies on the planet ... Their stuff is second to none and the service (alterations and such) is awesome, not to mention all the cool events they put on...
But like p51bombay said, they do tend to have racing cuts, But I know there are a few cruising jackets in there too..
Give 'em a call or stop in if you're around beantown ...
I can tell you from first had experience that Vanson Leathers are the best leathers as far as protection there is. I've had two sets throughout my racing career (which is long over). They literally saved my skin more than a few times. I don't have any experience with their street lines, but their racing equipment is second to none.

Yes sir, LRRS here. I did the Penguin Road Racing course with Jerry Wood. I learned more in that course than anything I've ever been a part of. Did you ever run at Bridgehampton?

Yep and Pocono , back when it was a three track series... I think it's either a golf course or condos now right ?
If you ran on it you will remember the grass growing up from the cracks in the track !!!

Hey, I'm real happy for you old racers hooking up, but, I'd still like to know what you Vanson guys can tell me about the Comet vs the Drifter. One is heavy weight the other is more light weight. Warmth? Protection? Thanks.
I can't tell you about those particular models but the heavy "competition" leather will be the same as on the other jackets and it is tough and thick. I think it will offer you very good protection yet still be comfortable and good looking off the bike. You will probably need to layer underneath it for warmth unless it comes with an insulated liner. I have two Vanson jackets, the CSRX Sportrider and the Mark 2 Cobra. They are great jackets.
Unfortunately, Vanson now manufactures all their stuff, except the custom made racing suits, in Central America. I have not seen them so don't know if the quality is the same as Vanson has been noted for over the years. If that matters to you I would look seriously at Fox Creek Leathers. They sell a quality product and it is less expensive than Vanson or FXRG. The FXRG is an impressive jacket that offers protection, looks, and should keep you warm.
