I've been trying to decide between a GoPro Hero3 Silver or Black edition, Contour +2, or the Replay XD1080.
I like the round shape & size of the Replay....easy mounting just about anywhere...and it has good reviews. the GoPro has gotten great reviews as well, however, I think I'm going to go with the Contour +2 (which also has very good reviews) because it has a built in GPS. The GPS will come in handy allowing you to see where you were traveling at the time while reviewing footage. In the videos you can have a small window showing a satellite aerial view along with ground elevation and speed. Its also small and easy to mount. I like that feature....better than trying to figure out where you were. It also allows you to sync it to your smart phone and use your phone as a view finder as well as control the camera. It's a little pricy but I think I'm going to bite the bullet and buy one.
I am thinking about getting a video camera for my bike. I use a PC so this figures into the equation as I was reading last night and some only record in the format for Mac. I can use quicktime, not a big deal, but i don't avhe any video editing software which would be a must if i were to do this. Is there anything that comes with their own editing software as I cannot shell out for Adobe premier right now?
If you have one post a video and your experience.
thanks!
Drew
I have a Contour HD with GPS. Here is a video I took at Arches Nat Park last September. I had it inside a waterproof case so there isn't much sound. Video is great but I get wind noise when recording while riding. I think this is a common problem with all makes though. I like the GPS track that it shows while playing the video. http://contour.com/videos/watch/arches-national-park
They have a free website where you can post your vidios for others to see and it also comes with some editiing software.

I've been looking at the Contour. read some reviews about the software and was wondering if you've had any problems with it. Here are a few of things I've read.
1. Can't share videos with friends unless they download Contours Storyteller App
2.Can't upload to youtube or other social media...have to use Contours website.
3. Have to use their editing software
Not sure if all this is true. What I'd like to be able to do is to use my own editing software and load whatever footage I'd like to on my laptop to edit, lay music down and have the GPS map embedded into the video. If I can't do that with the Contour I'll go with the Replay1080 instead.

Not sure I can answer all your questions but I do know I can post to facebook and youtube. I use Cyberlink Power Director to edit my videos and create DVD movies and it works with the Contour.

Thanks, that's good to know. One more question if you don't mind...when upload to youtube and FB, does the video show the GPS map...like in the video link you posted above?
I'm going to call Contour to get a little more info. If I can upload to youtube, facebook and make DVD's with the GPS map I'm going for it. Thanks again.
I tried the helmet cam and didn't like it at all. it's only shooting whatever you're looking at, so if you glance down or behind you (like, oh I don't know, to check traffic!), that's where the camera goes. I much prefer my slim, stainless steel handlebar mount. I wrote a blog series about different motorcycle camera mounts; maybe y'all will find it helpful: http://www.leadermotorcycle.com/camera.html

Sorry to say, but no. From the Contour website support section:
"One of the unique features to some of the Contour cameras is the ability to capture GPS data while recording a movie. In order to display that data we had to also create special software. YouTube, Vimeo, other video sharing sites do not have the ability to read and display the GPS data contained within our movies, so they will ignore that data and only show the video itself"
