We don't have to much of a problem here in most parts of Kansas. An 18 wheeler with his jake brake, will put most Harley pipes to shame. What bugs me is the kids with the 10,000 watt bass speakers in their cars. But hey, they didn't have those when I was a kid, or I probably would have had one too. I did have straight pipes on my 55 Ford Crown Vic, and my 42 "45" Harley. I think one thing that really helps, is that we do a toy run every year with about 400 plus bikes, most with loud pipes. The people come out and line the streets of the parade route holding signs, thanking us for what we do. No one complains about the loud pipes that I know of.
+1 with WGbob.....and trucks that have bumpers 4-5 feet off the ground. See where they line up with your head or your roof on your car. ( Just in case they dont see you)
These people are not going away, nor are the loud exhausts.Once the Geeks get all motorcycles to their level of satisfaction they will look for something else to focus on.It is what it is.Hopefully it will be their own with gas and electric powered leaf blowers. Now you talk about a waste, think of all the calories these yard people could burn if working a rack.
I think these noise laws were meant to enforce at what point is loud too loud. I like the sound of a good set of pipes, and yes not being disrespectful and revving the throttle is usually all it takes to keep the noise level in check...
But I've also known folks to go over board...and the noise from their pipes (especially riding with them) is just too much. If I don't like the noise, I'm sure some cager / pedestrian is going to find it annoying.
Everyonce in a while the thought crosses my mind (especially as it seems to be a male dominated trait)...the louder the pipes the smaller the... LOL
IMO it is not loud pipes going down the freeway, or even through town at rush-hour.
It is the jack-asses that roll through suburban residential areas at 11:00pm in 1st gear at 3kRPM, that are bringing this down on us....
Hell, when I come home to my RUB-estate late after a night out, I sometimes will run in 3rd, and "clutch-it" all the way into my garage... just to keep the noise down. Funny thing is, I am not a particularly compassionate or thoughtful person, but I don't want any "drama" in my neighborhood... been there, done that... not worth it.
