It would seem logical that the term HOG was given to Harleys first and the team adopted the pig as a mascot to parade around after a win. To rub in the face of those who called them HOGs.

Story about the pig mascot and racing is the true story. The Harley tourguide at the Steel Toe engine plant tour gave us the facts on that. The racing team actually did have a nick name which I cant recall, but the fans and other racers dropped that name and started calling them HOGS because of the pig.
