Been to FTS a few times, it was ok, saw the free concert and saw a lot of interesting people. We did leave Sturgis the Friday morning of the hail storm, got lucky!! Couldn't imagine the damage it would have done to my bike and riding all the way home with it beat to hell.
just finished watching the '09 hail storm episode, the only thing Michael seemed worried about were all the neon lights/bar signs... not one mention of the safety of his employees, customers or their bikes getting battered on by the huge hail *****.
I was there about a week before the official rally started this year. We stopped in for a cold one on the way back to our camp. There was a huge storm that snuck up on us while we were in the FTS. They let us ride our bikes right into the bar in case it started hailing (they heard that Deadwood was getting battered by hail). It never hailed in Sturgis but it was cool of them to let us ride in under cover just in case.
As for the TV show, I've been watching just to see if we made the cut. We got interviewed and they filmed us riding into the bar. Doesn't look like we got on the show. Can't see any good reason to watch any more of that soap opera.
The owner seems like a tool and if he is always facing losing his business he has gotta be doing something wrong. I would like to go but I would not be able to handle more than 2 or 3 days of being there and then I'd be ready to head somewhere quiet.
Actually, you just reminded me of an interesting point.
I have a few buddies that refuse to ride unless they can nail down someone to ride with. They openly admit that it is not fun enough for them to go out alone.
On the other hand, there are days that riding solo is way more fun for me than meeting up with others. Solo eliminates the "waiting for everyone to show up",...... eliminates the fuss about stopping or not stopping.
Just go as you please and come home when you want.
Depends on the mood when I wake up, and the personalities of the ones calling to ride that morning.
But to never ride unless you can find a partner, screams "non biker"! LOL
Frankly outside of my dog, and he's to short to ride his own I prefer to ride alone.

Ive never actually watched the show, but I have seen the promos for it. It looks really bad. I've never been to sturgis. I have been to other, smaller rallies and have thoroughly enjoyed them. I ride because I love to ride and go to rallies because I enjoy the company of others who ride and seeing all the bikes. Like I said, I've never been to Sturgis and I don't think I'll ever go because It doesn't sound like its about that anymore. From what I can see, its about money.
Anyone who goes to Sturgis or FTS, have fun and I'm not judging you in any way, but I would totally rather take off on a ride with a few buddies. I'm not really a crowd kinda guy though. And I will not ever pay 8 dollars for a can of beer. Not in this lifetime.
