Default Warranty issue... UPDATE!!

Cold but sunny day here in Central Pa today so got the bike out to make a trip down the road 35 miles to run a errand. Prior to leaving my house, I opened and put an item in my tour pack, no problem. So, take my ride and when I get there, I go to open my tour pach and find a problem. A big problem. A big chunk of the tour pack bottom section is cracked off. Where the front hinge attaches to the box, a chunk is totally broken away from the side of the box. The hinger being the only this holding the piece in place.

So right to my dealer and they scratch their head a bit, saying they've never seen this happen. Well, guy that handles the warranty is out until tomorrow so back I will go to get this thing started. Sure hope HD doesnt give me grief on this. OH, by the way. The price on just the bottom part of the tour pack is 1017 bucks. Sweet! Keep you posted. Anyone else ever have this happen?

------------------------------------UPDATE------------------------------------------------------------------

SO......Took the bike to my dealer this morning. Provided them with the pics to which they forwarded them to MOCO. Within a very short period of time, MOCO called back and drum roll.............They aint fixin it. They said they have never seen this before and could have occured by hitting a bump. BUT...and I say BUT with a smile. MY dealer said they would take care of it and put an order in for one today. Big, big clapping session for Apple HD in Altoona, PA. THEY are doing what MOCO should be doing.

In the past 4 years, I've spent almost 80,000 bucks on HD bikes along with thousands on parts and motor clothing. Also., brought to HD two Honda boys and got them on Ultras and one of these is about to pull the trigger on a Triglide.

MOCO warranty people have proved their worth to me. This TOur Pack retails to me for $1017. So they sell it to the dealer for about 50% of that or about 500 bucks. So what would they have in this part which would have come out of their pocket. I'm taking an educated high guess at 200 bucks. I praise for good and condemn for bad. I always try to look at thing objectivly and not one sided. So my word will travel on this. And I will stand loyal to Apple HD.
And by the way...they didnt even sell me this bike. I did try to buy this one from them but they just couldnt get me this bike and they fully understood, with no hard feelings, me going to the dealer that had this bike. But they do always joke at me tell me to go back to this dealer for my problems. Thank you APPLE!!

Which is their way of saying it's your fault...

I do hope it works out for you, but I'd be prepared for the worst...

What kind of "item" did you put in there? A bowling ball, a lead brick, a hand grenade? J/K. Good luck.

Everyone know tour packs are only there to stash your w**d in.

Oh, and I wish you well on the warranty issue.
Keep us posted!

So when you left the house the tour pak was ok, then you got 35 miles away it was grenaded? What was the parcel placed in the tour pak? Not that it matters. Sounds like the cold got to it. Could be a molding problem from the factory. Or the mounting bracket out of line a hair and the stress finally got it to crack. Or all of the above. Hope they cover it.

I once had a frisbee break in half on me...

Years ago, took son and wife to Yorktown Battlefield, for some family quality time...
Went out onto the field with frisbee, tossed it up in the air into the wind. It went pretty high, can't even guess how high, but when it came down... it hit the grassy ground, and broke in half. Clean break, straight down the middle. Temps were about 32°F. Plastic gets brittle in cold weather, and seems cold wind makes it even colder. Wouldn't surprise me if the tourpack suffered from the same thing.

Only seen something like that one time in a lot of yrs on the road and that was because the owner didn't want to wait for his wife to bring the pickup to a swap meet and he stuffed 1 complete and a another half shovel motor in it . I think those things are only rated at like 35 lbs .

Like posted earlier , cold could have played on a flaw in the fiberglass and little vibration ................ . Good luck man and keep us posted please
