PS : just from looking at that stator you may want to have a real close look at it and the wires coming off it , got 2 poles there that look burnt compared to the rest . Could have a little grounding issue going on there .
Yeah, there not too expensive I think I'm gonna just replace it. I checked it in september seemed good but i think you're right.
Been away from the bike for a couple of days, lots of work this week. I got real lucky I found my oil leak right where I thought it was, inner primary seal. I also got lucky with the shift shaft it's good, the lever has to be replaced, but I don't have to pull the tranny again this year. Now I just have to figure out if it's worth it to fix the leak at the valve cover gasket.

Upper end leaks only get worse so go for it you got the time . What years the bike ? and do you have 2 or 3 pc rocker covers ?
Can't tell from the pic but looks like a bit of rubbing around the boss on the inner primary there ?
Going to do the 10K on the Ultra and add the SE stage I intake and a Cobra Fi2000r fuel programmer.
Got it already to add the programmer and learned that J&P had sent the model for the 08-09 baggers. First mistake that they ever made with many orders over the years. I called and they are sending the correct model and they paid for the shipping back.
I don't think that there is a better place to buy cycle parts from.
If you are going to order a Cobra for a 10 or 11 bagger be sure that it is the J&P number 402-814. Their boxes got marked on the 402-872 that they were for the 08 to 11 when they are only for 08 to 09.
The 10's had the o2 sensor plug locations changed to behind the right side cover under the seat where the abs stuff goes. There is a new kind of plug which is the reason the previous Cobra won't install. It is super easy now to install at that location. In the earlier models the plugs were located one in the front and one at the rear of the engine and it was had to get my old stiff fat fingers in there to hook up.

1. the bikes a 94
2. 3 piece, and I believe I'll have to pull the motor to do the repair because of the way the FXR frame surrounds the motor.
3. You made me take a second look at the rub. Last spring the front pulley retaining nut ate the main drive gear threads, so I threw the pulley and it rubbed. But now i took a good look and it looks like something (rock?) got in between the pulley and the primary for half a spin and left it's mark. hell of an eye from 2500 miles away.

Seen enough broke **** in my time it kind of jumps out at me with out really looking anymore . Bad habit of being a mechanic so long a bike comes over and I see what's broke and needs attention before I really see the bike , sucks sometimes .
Rocker covers will come off in the frame but that rear one does get a bit tight just have to juggle around a bit it'll slide out and if I remember correctly there's a a hole already in the steetmetal for an allen or 1/4" 12 point to get to the rear middle cover bolt . Some years had them and then I've had to drill a few can't remember which ones .
A tip check the top covers & middle ring on a known flat surface like a piece of glass a big marble tile for flatness those had a habit of warping a bit . Oh yeah please go with top quality gaskets don't out cheap here like most guys do you'll be much happier in the long run the metal / silicon ones are the best .
