I had the HD jacket liner and gloves for two years now and no problems. If I had to do it again I'd go directly to Gerbing.
Heres the way it went down the day Gerbing started making gear for HD.
HD - The price is to high
Gerbing - Quality is expensive
HD - Cut some corners and lower the price to us so we can compete.
Gerbing - Ok, we'll take the heat out of the collar and instead of a sewn in bulk head connector we'll just have the wires dangling out of the jacket.
HD- Cool, so now your jacket is $160 and we can sell our HD branded jacket for about the same price and no ne will even notice the difference.
Gerbing = Life time warranty
HD 1 year but heard if you send it to Gerbing they will take care of you.
Never knew the difference till I compared my HD to my buddies Gerbing
i have tourmaster jacket liner, pants liner and gloves, gerbing insoles. tour master and gerbing use the same plugs if anyone is interested... i like both, the only thing that gets cold is my face from having to open my helmet because of fogging...
I've got a Gerbing vest and gloves. They are over 10 years old now and still work just fine. Living on the Texas Gulf Coast, I don't use them very often but am glad I've got em when I do need them.
Riding gear is no place to go cheap as it'll come back around and bite you dead in the ***. I'm a year round rider and I want dependability and a company that'll stand behind their product in the event of failure. Yes I've had occasion to use their warranty (self inflicted dumbass) and they replaced a jacket liner at no cost. Only Gerbing stuff for me.
I ended up with the HD liner and single portable controller, got it at a 20% discount making it less than I could buy the gerbings. And the HD controller has the pouch to clip to your belt included for $60, the gerbing controller is $69.95 plus $10.95 for the belt clip.
i have 2 eclipse electric vests. they are about 20 years old and are out of business. 1 of them stopped working so i started to look on the web on how to fix it. i searched for "repair electric vest" and "homemade electric vest". i got the wire for the repair at radio shack, it's 30 ga. and a roll of it was about $5 a few years ago. i used 39 ft. of wire in the vest i made. if you use less wire it will be hotter. there are detailed instructions if you search. my wife and i made about 8 electric vests over the last few years. we got some fleece vests at goodwill stores for about $6 and the inner insulated liner from walmart. wire from radio shack. it takes about 5 hours and you will need any ordinary sewing machine. 2 pole flats, switch, and anything else you might need comes from a hardware store. we have about $25 and a few hour's of time in each one we made.
