which year AMF's would be the ones to avoid? I've been looking at some
Didn't realize I was so near your neck of the woods Shu.1. Cast iron jugs sadwiched by alloy cases and heads causing leaks due to differences in expansion rates.
2. Lousy valvetrain geometry, improved in the Evo and fixed in the Twinkie
3. Historic gasket technology
4. Chain oilers that when they worked properly soaked the rear of the bike with oil
5. Substandard charging systems that could "maybe" charge the headlight and tail light, and nothing more
6. Weak brakes
7. Internal tolerences that are overy generous
Damn, I sound like a Shovel basher....totally not my point. I LOVE Shovels. My basement is full of Shovel parts as is my Evo. They are awsome bikes, but they simply need attention. They usually need top ends at 20 or 30K. Could you imagine the crybaby whiners that would come out of the woodwork if a twinkie needed a top end at 20 or 30K!!! It would be anarchy!!!
