Ok, I obviously have a problem sine I can't seem to say with a bike more tha 3 or 4 years. Checked on trade i yesterday for new Road Glide Custom from my V-rod. Currently owe less than 5k on the Rod. They offered me 10K or the trade in and Id end p financing under 17k for the Glide. Is this a good deal? I rode the Glide and it was amazing, but am not too sure how long it'll be before I want to change it. LOVE the V-Rod, just getting a little too comfortable and making crazy riding desicions. Hoping the bagger will help me slow down.
If ya think it is a deal buy it ~ ya'll love the RG Custom ~ I have had 29 HD's and love my bagger ~ When I finally bought the RK I thought I had gone to heaven till I got the first Ultra ~ Now I am a confirmed Geezer Glider ~ No Bar to Far is an understatement.... crazy miles can be ridden on these things
I dont know the value of your V-Rod but most of the time a dealer is going to give you less than if you were to sell it yourself.
Trading a bike in is an easy way to get a new bike by avoiding the time to sell your old bike.
Food for thought...post your VRod for sale at a fair price. If it sells - take $$$ to get RK (or other bike on your list). Then it was meant to be. Otherwise, bend over & take it in the rear w/your trade b/c the dealer always wins...

Maybe a couple of years ago, sure. But it's tough to sell a used bike nowadays. Too many good, low mileage, used bikes with some pretty nice bling already installed out there at cut rate prices.
With a reasonable trade in offer, he'd probably avoid the headaches of unrealistic cash or trade offers and/or sitting on it for months while it's advertised locally or on sites like EBay or Craigslist.
10K trade in for a VRod doesn't seem unreasonable for a bike that, at least in my neck of the woods, isn't all that popular. Question is, how do you feel about the deal. Cause ultimately, you're the one that's going to be making the payments.
I just went through the same thing. The manager used NADA as the reference for value. He gave me low retail value for my bike (Heriatge)and was asking for high retail on the SG I was looking at. We settled on mid retail for both and he stored the bike for free for the winter and he's throwing in a new windshield in the spring. I felt great about the deal. My payment only went up $18 without added years and I saved an aditional $400 on the storage and windshield. Those add ins (service is another one you can ask for ) can sweeten the deal and leave you feeling really good about the purchase too.
The other thing to consider is it's a week before Xmas and that sales guy sure would like to get his kid the newest XBox. Not too many people gonna walk in the door just before XMAS to buy a bike...work that!

Reason: bad speeling

For me it was about a month later. But it took me a year to unload it because nobody wanted it, so I took the beating on price and traded it in on a RoadKing. Haven't looked back since.
I just couldn't get used to looking at that dashboard everytime I rode it. I don't know if you've ever experienced having to drive your vehicle somewhere along with other people who were all on bikes. That's what the RG felt like to me. At least with a batwing fairing (if you have to have a bike with fairing) it turns with the bars so you at least feel like your part of the motorcycling world. That non moving RoadGlide fairing just sits there staring back at you. Mine seemed to get bigger and uglier everytime I looked at it. Some people own them and love them, maybe you would like it. I wish I had rented a RoadGlide for awhile rather than waste $10K on my transition from Softail to eventual RoadKing.

I was looking at doing the same thing this time last year. Dealer wanted 16k plus my 06 Vrod. I sold the rod the first day on Craigslist & bought a 1400 mile used street glide.
I ended up with what I wanted & had a extra 7K still in my pocket.
Decided to really weigh my options, finances, riding preference, milage, maintenance, cost again, and really took your advice along with others into consideration. Decided to just ride a little today to really let the options run barefoot through my mind. Cruising on Hwy 59 in North Houston at around 0. Blackerry tuned into Pandora Radio rocking Seether, Eminem, Disturbed, Korn, ec. I'm zipping in and out just bette than traffic feeling one with my bike when I come to the realization have never been more at tune with a machine in my life like I am ith this V-Rod. The way it movs, accelleraes, stops, handles all fits within my ability and reflexes. Without even thinking about it I was smiling taking an exit onto Old highway 90, where I opeened her up to a blistering 140 mph. The bike felt smooth as glass and the music was still clear in my ears...mostly due to the fullface helmet.
I began questioning what the ell was I thinking? This bike is me in mechanical form and I still like riding it too much to trade her in. Maybe a few years down the road I will be able to afford the Road Glide. Maybe I'll get tired of riding fast, stopping fast, and being able to control my bike with ease while still riding something that is fairly unique and soewhat frowned upon. Fact of the matter is...I LOVE RIDING THE V-ROD! So, until next time..I'm on the ROD!
