So, your not speeding. Your just in the wrong place.
Yeah, I tried that argument with the trooper who pulled me over last September....doing a smooth 80 (that's the Super Glides 'sweet spot') in a 50 zone.

He didn't buy it, but wrote me up for a 60 in a 50 zone (which is a ridiculous speed limit for open country hardtop with few intersections and great sight lines...but of course that's why the troopers like to sit in such places).

I'm just not used to troopers in one of those new unmarked black Dodge Chargers. I think I avoided a lot of 'sweet spot riding' tickets over the years by being able to recognize just about any configuration of Crown Vic...from any angle, any distance, any vintage.

It was an interesting funeral escort for a deceased Marine. State police car, hearse and 30 motorcycles northbound.
I used to occasionally ride with a chief of police for a jurisdication that spanned a sizeable length of road known as a notorious speed trap. I remember following him through that stretch one day doing about 80+ in a 35 zone, and when we later stopped I asked, "are you crazy?" All he did is grin, and said he'd like to see one of his boys pull us over. The law is different for those folks.

75-80 is normal highway cruising speed in Texas, if not a little more. There are several places here our speed limit is 80.

I bought my bike to slow down. I can only afford 1 toy at a time, so before the bike I had a Corvette, 99 C5, 6sp, and a few strategic mods.

Considering the **** I pulled in that 'Vette....and any of y'all that know these, KNOW what they are capable of......well, let's just say after 4 years I'm lucky to be alive and still have a clean driving record.

Now I'm riding all those rural backroads and actually enjoying the scenery....which used to be just a blur in my peripheral vision.

Like I said previously, when our speedo was showing 81mph we were only going 75mph. I did not say the actual speed was higher than what the speedo showed.

I soon realized that if I didnt use my cruise control I was gonna get a ticket. Like you my wife says I drive like a grandpa ( I survived 3 wrecks in my younger days in cages that could have killed me).

Cool

I've said it before and I'll say it again... 90 is a little under 3.5 k on the rpm-o-meter.

75 to 80 mph on the Road King is just about right for the freeway. My car likes 85 with the cruise control set.

Heh, I rode a buddy's dresser a few years back...Third gear, cruisin' along a two lane, glance at the speedo...80 MPH! Startin' & stoppin on that beast was too much (I'm 5'4"), but the cruise was too smooth.
