Im looking for a full face helmet since cooler weather is approaching. I have looked at what posts on here that I have been able to find, but with all of the different brands and models of helmets out there the choice can be somewhat overwhelming at times. I previously owned a Shoei appx 10 years ago back when I rode sport bikes and I got it then mostly cause it looked cool. I know that Shoei and Arai make top quality helmets and have also heard good things about Shark and Suomy helmets. So I figured since everyone has different things that are required to make up a good helmet to them and here is a list of what im looking for in this order of importance:
Top priority of ANY would be comfy fit, and I realize I need to try on different brands for that,... so im looking for suggestions of brands and models to try out
#1. Good air flow because I live in Texas and it does get hot here at times
#2. Prefer one that is Snell and DOT certified, because if im wearing one I want the safest one out there.
#3. I would like one that is one of the lighter weight models since it would make long rides easier
#4. I would like one that would be fairly quiet as well,... definately do not want one where buffetting is a problem
#5. One that has a good antifog shield and that you can barley crack open the visor to vent out the shield if needed, "some models ya cant"
#6. Price is less of a concern as long as its top quality and great fitting helmet
Thanks for any suggestions,... Also if you know of any online helmet review site I would be grateful. Bottom line is unfortunately I can take any helmets for a demo ride,... otherwise the choice would be alot easier.
I have a Shoei X-11 and it's a nice helmet. Light and good airflow. One word
of caution though....think about getting different cheekpads. I've had a few
Shoei helmets and never had a problem with the cheek area. But on the X-11
the stock cheekpads were squeezing my cheeks so tight I looked like a goldfish.
I went to the smallest size cheekpads and it solved the problem. But it ended
up costing me another $40 for another set of cheekpads.
I also got a light smoke shield visor for the sun, which I really like.
Also, it tends to fog in cool weather, but I guess all full face helmets do this.
But I really like the helmet for cold weather riding.
Well,.... after reading a few online reviews of different brands and models I found a good deal on a Shoei RF 1000 Nerve Red on ebay for $299.99 brand new, so I went ahead and ordered it. I'll let ya know how it works out and will give a lil review of it since helmet selection for alot of folks can be kinda tough. It was a toss up between the RF-1000 and the X-11, but since all of the reviews that I read had both helmets ranked really high and they actually were ranked pretty closely to each other,... I just decided that there wasn't a need to spend twice as much on the X-11. The bad thing about purchasing a good quality helmet is that for the most part just about every rider will have a different opinion of a different brand and model, because nowadays there are alot of really top quality helmets on the market and there are also alot of helmets that would fall into the "junk" catagory as well.
Thanks,
John

I use a Nolan N-100 flip up. Very comfortable, quiet, good anti-fog system, and warm in the winter. Unfortunatly, the air flow system is not that good. It's OK, just not that good. I got on close out not long ago at Dennis Kirk for not much more than $100. It's a great 3 season helmet.
