I bought a set from Air-lite. These are one piece as opposed to the typical two piece chaps. They work very well. The biggest difference I can tell is that they help to keep my toes from getting so cold.

I don't agree that chaps worn on your legs will do as well as engine guard chaps since my biggest cold related problem has always been my toes.

Was 23 degrees when I left the house this morning. Wore my chaps, 2 layers of fleece under jacket, fleece balaclava under half helmet, HD/Gerbings heated gloves and the snap on engine guard chaps. I was toasty the entire 35 mile ride.

The only problem with the HD engine guard chaps is they are VERY tight and a bitch to put on. You got to do a lot of tugging which is frustrating if you are in a rush.

They work great and channel the hot air form the engine onto yer legs and feet. If you have a crash bar, they're a must have in the winter imo

I have a friend that has used them ...He said they worked great for warmth and protection from the wind ...But said his fuel mileage went way down.

I had desert dawgs on my wideglide and they helped in the winter and rain.

I used engine guard chaps on the Suzi when riding in the mornings (temps 30-50). I also wore chaps (45 degrees or up) or heavy riding pants (under 45 degrees). The engine guard chaps are easy enough to take off, roll up, and store away in the afternoon.

Plan on getting engine chaps for the SG (or modifying the ones I currently have) - they really do a great job keeping off the wind and rain.

I use them along with the National Cycle wind deflectors on the bars. Both help when the temps get below freezing.
