Default Engine Guard Chaps

Has anyone ever used these? Are there any pros or cons to their use on a motorcycle? If you haven't heard of them they are leather simulated pieces (two halves) that fit on the engine guard or crash bar stopping airflow to the rider during cold or wet weather. There is an opening where straps join the two halves holding them on the bar.

I've never used them but I've seen them on the forum before. Not supposed to be used unless it's under 50 degrees. I think Chaps for me would be a better idea.

I agree. Regular chaps for yourself would probably work better and you wouldn't have to worry about your motor not getting enough cold air... I wear the and like them. Just be sure to get some good quality ones with heavier leather and possibly with removable liners.

You have to watch the temps you ride in and keep an eye on oil temp, but around 60 degrees I peel them off. I've used them and they do well at knocking down some of the wind, rain and cold. Use them up here in Michigan and up into Canada and fall trips they're nice just to keep in the bags if needed as they don't take up much space. Those fall days when its in the 30's or some rain, yup gott'em on! Good for keeping the rain and spray off your boots/chaps.

Desert Dawgs btw

I have the Harley version and I like them. They block the cold wind on the lower legs and ankles. I take them off and store them in the saddle bags when it warms up. When the regular temps are above 50* I leave them at home. I think I paid about $50.00 for them.

Ride safe,

Bob.

I have a set that I got off of ebay and then made a set for my son. They are very easy to make. I have used them when I get caught in the rain and they work great. They keep you dry. The set I made cost about 10 bucks to make. That was material and the snaps.

I have a set and only used them once when it was 33 degrees when I pulled out. Stuffed them in the bags when it warmed up. I figure if it's cold enough to need them, the bike will not be short on cool air.

There is little I could do heat-wise that's worse that what I do to this thing in the summer.

I have the Harley kind on my EG.I like them for really cold as it heats the motor up too. They have to come off though above 50 degrees.I have the Desert Dawgs on my springer I like them better as there is no heat restriction and look a little cooler but don't heat the motor up on really cold days.
