I agree with the deer running away from the loud pipes. I am looking at the premium air horn from HD cause my Ultra SEIIs arent that loud.

IronHorse
I've got Howards Horns Dynamic Duo's and they are LOUD. I had the opportunity to use them on deer (twice) and dogs (a few times). The dogs scooted on across the road, apparently startled by the blast. But on both occasions that I gave a deer a full blow of the mighty twin trumpets, the buggers just looked at me like "what are you honking at?" and casually walked away.

I think that loud pipes are a different type of sound, one which has more wave impact as a result of the frequency and amplitude of the pulses, and that is what frightens animals away. Translation = a loud HD makes a thunderous, vibration that is more both FELT and heard. Horns and whistles are heard.

I don't know about loud pipes and deer (have touring mufflers) however air horns do work. We have had several deer come out on the road in front of us or charging across a field. A blast of the air horns has got them to run the other way every time. We gave RIVCO air horns.

Like the president of Harley Davidson says:

How many lives loud pipes matters not when they (uncle sam) takes
all of our riding rights away because of the loud pipes.

Let me see here" Loud pipes for a few years till they won't let us ride
motorcycles of any kind any where, a total ban on motorcycles in the
U.S.A. [:'(]

Or" We ride with stock pipes or pipes with in the laws limits of maximum
desible limits and get to ride where we want and when we want.

it seems like a no brainer to me" [sm=bangbang.gif]

F*ck the president of HD. Figurehead that has to bow to public morons. As long as I am not gunning my ride and acting like a dufus, having louder than stock pipes has worked in instances for me regarding dumbass cagers. So if I AM above some dB limit, too f'n bad. Fix the problem of the killer cagers and maybe stock pipe level is considerable. Otherwise just keep handing out the toe tags and let them kill more and more.

IOW - take away the "no brainers" and the 'no brainer' exhaust is feasible.

We have done a couple of rides in the canyons around Salt Lake, and we always see deer so I'll add that one to my list of reasons too.

Now I have a good reason to explain to the wife my need for new pipes. I'll tell her that story.

If it's mateing season, loud pipes or not, Males will stop for nothing if they catch that scent. I have seen them try to run across 4 lane hiways in rush hour in persuit of a female. I have hit 2, both in cars thank god. One did quite a number on my 66 chevelle, when cars were made of real metal.

Hey if you think it is cool to wake people up in the middle of the night
or to wake up a baby in the middle of the day,or to **** everyone off
every where you go so the they pass laws that we can't ride motorcycles
any more any where thats fine.

I want to be able to ride my motorcycle any where I want and I want my
kids and grand kids to be able to do the same so I'll stay with legal pipes.

IMO alot of car hiting motorcycles aspecially Harleys are on purpose some
people just get so pissed off they take the loud bike out! In 40+ years of
riding and working on motorcycles riding 50 to 100,000 miles a year I've
been at many a wreck scene and heard car drivers say to the Police..
(I hit him because he was being a noisey A hole)

The Police rarely do anything to the driver even after they make a point of
telling the officer they hit him or stoped short on him on purpose. I've seen
this many times and I do not feel sorry for the motorcyclest one bit, after all
they brought it on themselves. I'm a motorcyclest for over 40 years and I
still have no pitty for motorcyclests who do not have respect their fellow mans
rights!

No I don't live there any more, I/we could not stand the people that live there
any more, so your safe!!!........ LOL"..... LOL"

I/we like it in the Carolina mountains much more then CA. one heck of alot better
riding here!!

I totally understand you thinking I'm nuts, most people that "own" motorcycles
now days can not relate to anyone who actually "rides" a motorcycle any more.
With all the R.U.B.S. YUPPIES, trailer queen owners, bike polishers, wanna be
bikers and what ever other kind of non riders you can think of out there these
days can not relate to any one that really rides and knows whats going on out
there.

I'm totally happy when those people think my wife and I are nuts, crazy or what
ever because their not motorcyclests or bikers, so we think their nuts, crazy or
what ever anyways!

I've always only been able to relate to people who are actually motorcyclests
or bikers, possers are very strange people IMO... Motorcyclests and bikers
are the best people God put on this earth IMO!!

So it's all good my friend, what ever works for you and makes you happy
is good with me!!

You ride safe as you can now Ya" Hear"

I don't know but you better bring a big truck to haul em out with............my friend who lives 12 miles South of me actually videotaped 3 coyotes attack and kill a deer in his back yard about 2-3 weeks ago. The National Park Service told him to feel free to shoot any coyotes on sight because they are now becoming a danger to residents. It's wild kingdom here now with all the overpopulation of deer.
