1974 in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. 34 below. Bike was only mode of transportation and I had to get to work.

got caught out in 16 degrees one year...not really that cold--but it is cold if you are from south texas. if i have a choice, try not to leave the house in the 30's. gotta admire the guys that ride in the single digits--of course their i.q. must also be in the single digits!! seriously, there is no reason for riding in below freezing temps. unless a bike is your only means of transportation...and you are out of sick days.

I ride in below freezing temps, mid 20s or so fairly routinely. Down as cold as 10-15* or so ambient temp on a couple of occasions. I'd prefer something not quite that cold, but if you dress for it, it's not that bad. It's not much different than skiing or snowmobiling, and I used to do both of those for fun. Hell, I used to pay good money to go skiing in freezing temps.
