the original batteries in my 06's fob still worked when i traded it in november...

Not to mention the fact that if you're one of the owners that didn't read that part of the manual, chances are the thief only has to be smart enough to count to 1.

If you haven't reset your security code, you're Key fob is kinda redundant.

Change it out once a year when you renew your registration for peace of mind so you aren't left with a bike that won't start an no battery in sight.

if it helps you sleep at night, go for it. myself, i don't like to buy batteries when i don't need to, so i use the one that i have until it doesn't work anymore.

i know my code, i know the procedure to use it. when the fob doesn't work, i use my code. then i either stop by walmart, or dollar general and pick up a new one. it isn't that inconvenient, and my last battery lasted 3-1/2 years.
