Have a "memory" on your bike?
My closest friend at the time died at the ripe old age of 24 from that muderous bastard, the big C. We had ridden all from jr. high through college. It was always on enduros or pure dirt bikes and once he was gone, riding the trails alone just wasn't the same.
My first street bike was a 75 sporty and I got a blank aluminum points cover and got it engraved with his name. When I sold the sporty, I just drilled 2 more holes and bolted it to the FXR, when the FXR was sold it immediatly went on my glide. He's looked after me out on the road and saved my sorry *** more than once in the 21 years he's been gone and I'm greatful he's still rode all those miles with me.
My dad had bought me a little self adhesive clock that I stuck I my fairing years ago and we logged a lot of miles and had a lot of great times before the big C grabbed him as well. I can't tell you how much that little clock means, when I bring it to the jewler to get a new battery put in it every once in a while, they know the story behind it and even though it's cheaper to buy a replacement, they just put the battery in it and send me on my way.
It's those kind of things along with all the memories I have of riding both my kids on the glide that make me love the bike. Bikes have always been about building memories to me...
