My mom died in last May. She left me some money (thanks Mom!) and I up graded to my 2nd new-to-me bike. She always liked it when I rode over to see her . She'd say "Ride your motorcycle today???" In honor of her, I took her watch, removed the band and used double sided tape to attach only the large clock face to the fork stem cap. It actually was a cheap watch, but it has held up in both rain and cold weather so far. It's comforting to ride with her now plus I can tell the time on a glance. Wondered if I was the only wacky one but I'm thinking I'm not.
The timing with this thread........while I didn't purchase my bike with money left to me, I did get a simple clean black harley that sort of honored my dad....as he loved the very simple black ones....stripped of emblems and labels and stickers. Just last week I was over my moms house tuning up her computer...and she gave me some of the stuff from my dad...including a jewlery box...had his watches, tie clips and buttons 'n stuff from Grumman and General Dynamics. (He designed the cradle that held the large radar dish on the Grumman E4 Hawkeye "Eye in the Sky", and then went to work at EB...the 688 Fast Attack sub) Anyways...a month or so ago when I was cleaning my bike I was thinking of affixing some sort of clock or watch to it...and that the stem cap would be a great spot. Now I think I'll do it....use one of his watches...thanks for the idea.
This is a great thred. back in May of 2004 one of my best friends died in a bike wreck and it always had a black wrist band with a red star on his front master cylinder-it's a sport bike thing sicne most of the master cylinders are white and right on the bars-looks kinda bad. So after he died I always had a black wrist band with a red star on all my sport bikes front master Cyl. I don't have any sport bikes now, but still have the band in the garage wih the bikes.
I had a buddy die from a sudden unexpected heart attack(thought he was perfectly healthy) while my ultra was in the shop gettin a custom paint job. I had a weird dream one night that everyone in our group got some kind of memorial tat in remembrance. When i woke up i called my painter airbrush his name on my inner faring. Now he rides every time i do.
Good stories. I apologize tho. Didn't mean to point to death or unfortunate situations. My mom was 93 - I was the waaay behind baby - she had me at 50 (not, but close). She lived a good long life. It seemed fitting.
This past summer I inherited my Uncle's 2000 Heritage Softail Classic, he passed in 2008.
I've been thinking of a good way to do some sort of memorial to him on the bike. It appears that someone stole the emblem off of the back of the sissy bar.
So once this weather warm's up and I take the bike out of it's winter storage. I'm going to take the bar off and go to a local trophy shop to see if they can make some sort of custom emblem that I can affix to the back.
Not on my bike but on my garage wall. My uncle who was my best ever riding buddy passed away this summer with cancer. Before I sold his bike for his wife, I took off the HD shifter rod I had put on his bike for him and mounted it on a nice piece of oak. Great reminder everytime I walk past it. Thanks Fred!!

That's a really cool idea and it gave me an idea. I'd been looking for a patch for kind of a "in memory of" my first wife who passed in '02 to take her with me when i ride, but I hadn't found one yet. Thanks.

i've also done this. Find their signature, take it to a vinyl sign shop and have them make a stencil. stick the stencil to any chrome surface big enough and very lightly etch it with a small sandblaster then peel off the stencil. Looks awesome! Be careful not to blast too much and blow the stencil off. Use white sand from lowes called play sand NOT blast media.
