I burn my high beam but these dumb sumbitches around here would run into the back of a fire truck with every light flashing on it,no joke.
+1 here. You can put neon lights, disco ***** and signal flares on your bike, but when an inattentive a**hole prangs into you, it'll always be "Gee, officer, I never saw him". High beams and loud pipes are no substitute for defensive riding. And a little luck.
Even eye contact was not enough, with a nice looking lady. With all the lights that are always on on my GL, she was completely stopped to make a left into her driveway. We did make eye contact and that is when she decided to go ahead and turn. No rush, she just made the turn like she was the only driver within 100 miles. I locked both brakes and slid enough to miss her rear fender and she never even looked back.
You don't know how bad I wanted to initiate some serious road rage on her! But I didn't, just said to myself, self, you just got first hand knowledge of how much cagers give a ****.
Low beam during the day. I flash it at times if I see someone that might cross in front of me.
I rewired my FXSTC when I first got it to run without a light during the day. I do have a 55/100w H4 in it though, (stock was a sealed beam 35/55w).
Never had anyone flash me since it's adjusted correctly.
Personally, I DO want them to look at me and SEE me.
But that's just my opinion.
Actually... no.
Regardless, I'm still running my high beam when the situation calls for it. And to respond to another post - No, I can't remember being flashed by an oncoming car. Maybe my head light isn't bright enough...
Well..it appears that no amount of constructive criticism will convince the Bright Light advocates that it is not a good idea, so how about this...
If bright lights and modulators alert other drivers that "I am here..so watch out for me" then why don't you drive around with your hazard lights on also? Maybe that will be a better way to announce your presence? Try it and see how far you go without being pulled over. After all...who cares if it is illegal. Just tell the officer that you "forgot" to turn them off.
High beams are a pet peeve of mine. They just **** me off cause it is very annoying. Don't tell me it don't blind someone, if you don't think it does then why the hell do you have them on. To me it's not so much blinding but is just dang annoying. I agree with what was said earlier, it is usually a newbie or dork on a bike with them on. 30-40 years ago no one ran with high beams on. It's only been in the past 5-10 years that is has become prevailent, hence newbie. Learn to ride defensively and don't assume people will see you even with high beams on. You see a left turn signal on you best assume they are gonna turn in front of you even with your high beams on. You have no right a way on the highway on a bike get used to it. Always have an escape route figured out as it should be part of riding a bike. Seen way too many guys on bikes nowdays assume they have and take the right a way or will blast thru a busy intersection like no one else would dare pull out in front of them. Sooner or later those types will end up in the hospital or worse. The same ones that have caused my insurance to explode. High beams don't do a thing other then annoy people. Just what bikers need, to annoy the general public and **** them off some more towards bikes.

Don't hold back, tell us exactly what you think. lol
My pet peeve isn't so much high beam than modulators. They aggravate the sh*t out of me.
I want them considered illegal ASAP, except for emergency vehicles.
Some guys have them on in group rides!! I don't know how many times I've stopped and told the guy behind me, either you turn off your sh*t or you move to the front. <sigh>
Cool! A weird, obscure, thread about riding motor bikes that I don't recall being brought up before.(It may have, I just don't recall it) I guess I am on the use high beams only at night when you need them to see farther, you know, what they are made for side of things. The last time I replaced my headlight it surprised me how far the alignment was off. I suggest to all of you, go out side at night with a socket wrench and see where your low beam is throwing. It may surprise you like it did me, then adjust it to a safer position. You may find you don't need to ride with a high beam if your low beam is adjusted correctly.
Also I noticed some of the safety advocates around here have taken their reflectors off. Could those that did explain their logic?

Probably because they don't look good...never mind the reason why they are there in the first place. The same logic that says it is OK to ride around during the day with the high beams on. Some of the responses should be good...and I bet someones says they are side reflectors, so how is someone coming towards us going to see them?

Maybe you are the newb? The Hurt Report recommended the use of high beams during the day back in 1981. The MSF has also endorsed the use of high beams during the day for as long as I can remember. Of course I'm fairly new at this myself, I've only been a MSF Ridercoach/Instructor since 1981.
