I wanted to take some chrome off the rear to have powder coated. Called the service dept and asked about taking the shocks off to see if I needed to do anything special. Didn't think to ask about jacking it up. Took 1 side off no issues. As soon as I pulled the 2nd off the rear of the bike fell and it tried to tip over.
Sigh, Once all the parts came back I got a couple of friends and they ran the bolts for the shocks while I held up the rear end. Lesson learned. I now own a motorcycle jack and will use it.
Every Stinking day I do or say something stupid, but it makes
me smarter every day as well. You learned something usefull every day,
like looking at the date of the original post. By the way this is aimed at me,
because I didn't look.
Yep and I could sit there and plan it for an hour and the mirrors would still go on backwards, lol!! This is an edit because I never noticed the date till I read your post, whats that make me hehe.

Look closely. See my bike? See the tires? See what is in between the tires?
Just in case you were not sure because it is winter so it is hard to see that's a frekin Cactus. In a hurry to get the right light before the sun set so I could send a picture to my buddy in California.
Been working on my bikes, house, cars since I was young and sharp minded, but limited in experience. Now, I'm old, experienced, and forgetful. Just can't win.
I've had more than my fair share of "brain farts" and "senior moments".
Many years ago, it was installing the battery in my '76 SuperGlide FXE for the first ride of the season.
I had the bike in the driveway, the battery in the battery box an when I started to hook up the cables I dropped one of the "nuts" and down it went, never to be found again!
I tried to force it out with an air hose, then a water hose. I moved the bike back and forth, tipped it to either side, and still no sight of the lost nut!
After a trip to the harware store......I was now on my "first" ride of the season and I had just went about one mile when I heard this loud "ping"!
I then realized that my "lost nut" was then truly gone forever!
