Default Idiot moment

Ever start something and then realize you were having an "idiot moment"? I did today.

Had a 2-up stock seat on my Fat Bob and went to install a new solo seat. Took off the stock seat and popped the clip off the nut that runs up through the fender that the rear seat bolt screws into. I don't know what it's called, but it's that nut with the little tab on it. Attached is a picture.

Went to put on the solo and had to insert the nut in the hole further up inside the fender from underneath. Problem was, I couldn't get my hand between the tire and fender to put the nut into place. After thinking about it for a minute, I realized I'd have to un-bolt the fender and lift it up to get my hand far enough in.

After taking the fender 1/2 way off, I felt like an idiot. Dropped a string through the hole in the fender from the top, threaded it through the nut and tied it to a washer. Took about 2 seconds to fish the nut up through the hole in the fender and secure it with the clip.

What should have been 2 minute job took 20 minutes once I got done putting the fender and tail lights back together.

I had my own idiot moment tonight. I am custom making mirror arms out of chain & welded the mirror facing the wrong way. I just turned the lights off & walked away!!!

We all have them. I spent an hour the other day removing parts, tracing wires, trying to figure out why my blinker did not work. Bulb filaments looked good. Decided to try another bulb. It worked. Put it all back together and felt like a total idiot. DO NOT assume a bulb is good just because the filament is not broken.

Experience. It helps you recognize a mistake when you make it again.

Yes. We all have idiot moments. Last week I went to the garage to start the bike up, let it warm up and change engine oil. But the starter motor did not act as I pressed the starter button. I checked wires on the starter, checked battery voltage, checked wires on the handlebars, then I realised ignition lock was set to ACC position...
