You can put a big roll in front of the handlebars, above the head light. It will also serve as a wind deflector.

Agree with the pack roll bungeed to handlebars doing double duty, pack and blocking elements like a shield. Also agree with the throw over saddlebags. You can also lay a black small towel over your rear fender for protection and bungee a duffle bag back there. If positioned properly, this can also act as a back rest.

Sounds tough. Don't wear a backpack - I did once to carry some gear and it just makes your ride suck. The roll on the handlebars is as good as anything I can come up with.

My wife has this problem with her Sportster - she doesn't want a sissy bar or saddlebags, but she wants to carry stuff. I made her a solo bag, similar to LaRosa's, this weekend (not quite done yet). I guess everything else will go on mine.

Check out the Road Trip section too; you'll get some good info in there.

As far as packing goes, roll your clothes up instead of folding them. You'll have more room doing it that way and have a lot less wrinkles!

Try Saraceni handlebar bags. They come in different sizes and they strap under the headlight and around the handlebars. Your don't need bungee cords. The size I purchased allows for me to do a 3-4 day trip with no problem. The website is: www.saracenibags.com
