learned something new yestereday!
The charge is $150 - but that is changing all 3 oils/filters with HD fully synthetic washing down the bike & a quick wax + inspecting everything for issues.
I know - its high for oil change - but in my experience some things are worth the money.
They will have it back to me this week.
Kinda nice, but I live so close that I'd feel guilty. The one any only time I've had to leave my bike there I just hung out til the wife came and got me.
But, I do it myself 98% of the time. My bike has 112,000 miles on it, so oil changes every 5000 mils works out to 22 oil changes. At $150 each that works out to $3300. Doing it myself, with syn3, costs about $75 each time, for $1650, a savings of 50%, or $1650. When I find a deal on syn3 or Mobil1 vtwin, I stock up enough for several changes, so the savings are even more.
Besides, I know it's done right. I can pull the drain plug after a ride, then do other things for a couple hours before putting things back together, so I get more of the old oil drained than the dealer would.
For me though - its cold as heck (at least until this week). I don't want to bother my wife with following me out to the dealer to drop it off & pick it up myself etc. Plus this gives them a chance to get to know the bike.
Besides all of that - I bought the bike out of state. I've still got a couple weeks of wait time until the title shows up so I can put plates on it. I have ins. but still cant drive w/o plates.
So for me - at least this time - its well worth the $150.
I just wish the dodge dealer would come get my truck while I was at work & change the oil then bring it back. Now that would be sweet!
The Best of Harley-Davidson for Lifelong Riders
He said "There is a problem with your bike".
Real sericous & deadpan.
I though Oh **** here it comes - I'm gonna be $3000 into my $8k bike before I even get to ride it.
So he starts to explain to me that the previous owner installed a Japanese made tire on the front of my American made bike.
I said "so??".
He then proceeded to try to sell me a brand new Harley Davison tire explaining that I just couldn't have a japanese tire on my american bike.
Now - you should all know - the japanese tire was installed by the dealer I purchased the bike from. its brand new - zero miles - I don't even have plates yet tire.
HA! I asked him if there were any other surprises??? He said he hadn't started on the bike oil change yet but he wanted to let me know that Harley's shouldn't have japanese tires.
HAHA! I told him to leave it there & if I have any handling problems I'll be sure to replace it with a harley davidson part number tire.
I sure hope he doesn't "find" anything else - like Japanese oil in it or something.
You know - not to **** anyone off here - but the japanese make good stuff - that's why they have kicked our *** in manufacturing for so long.
Also why do you say it gives them a chance to know the bike? It should be you getting to know the bike.
Changing the oil is so easy even I can do it.
