Default Genuine HD accessories VS Aftermarket

Seems the Harley stuff is pretty expensive, whats the general feelings about the aftermarket products, i.e. J P, Cycle Specialtes, Arlen Ness etc. Quality and price ,same, better, not as. thx

Default Saddle Bags for my 2008 Night Train

Does anyone know if 2011 Dyna Saddle bags will fit a 2008 Night Train? The bags that I have been waiting for Harley to produce only "fit" the Dyna, according to my local H-D parts guy. Any help or advice would be most appriciated. Thanks!

Harley stuff usually is better quality, but a lot of times it doesn't matter enough to be worth paying the price.

Arlen Ness typically = $$$'s.
I use a mix, of J&P and HD... they don't always have the same items available which leaves little choice.

It depends what your buying. I don't know about chrome stuff because I'm not a chrome cowboy. But when buying sheet metal and frame parts there is a huge difference. I was going to use an after market front fender on my FXEF from J&P but when we started to prep it the thing looked like it was cut out with an air nibbler and the radius was completly wrong. Ended up using a brand new O.E.M. fender from e-bay. Fender struts were another annoyance having to use a Dremel on a bolt mounting hole that was 1/2 inch to long. Assembly parts are the same, they haven't been engineered, just pooly copied. Factory parts for the most part are worth the extra $$$ in my opinion.

Definetly depends on what your buying, a lot of the stuff that HD sells is from china and no better than aftermarket suppliers.

Genuine Harley parts are generally better quality than anything else dollar for dollar. You can get cheaper, but if you do it's generally just that. Cheaper. Some aftermarket stuff (Ness are you listening?) is simply way over priced and you are paying for the name, not the quality. The one thing Harley makes that I feel is not worth the money is seats. Some like Harley seats (sundowner), but I have never in my life had a Harley seat that I thought was worth whatever it cost. I've had 1 or 2 that were comfortable, but I know I could have spent just a little more and got a much better one from someone like Mustang, or Danny Gray.
