Spring Training
The rains came in hard Friday night. The forecast was for thunderstorms until Saturday night. It was still raining hard when I got out of bed early Saturday morning, but looking to the west there was some clear sky. I put on the rain gear, but the rain stopped when I left my house at about 8:00am. I made it to Corona without hitting any rain.
We left Corona at about 10:00am. Passing through Banning and Beaumont we were right at the snow line. We stopped for fuel in Blythe at about 12:30 in the afternoon and I took off my rain jacket. We made it to the hotel in Tempe, AZ at about 3:45 in the afternoon.
On the ride out we hit some wet roads but hardly any rain. Just a few sprinkles. We could see dark clouds and rain all around us in the desert, but we got lucky. It rained hard again Saturday night. That was the first time my Road King has been left out in the rain.
We went for a short ride on Sunday morning to get a cup of coffee. It was very cold, the roads were wet, and the sky was dark. About 15 minutes after we got back to the hotel there was hail coming down. That was the first time my bike has been left out in hail.
The skys cleared up before the game started and the weather was beautiful the rest of the weekend. We rode back on Monday on a more southern route. We rode down to Gila Bend, out to El Centro, and up the west side of the Salton Sea to Indio.
All in all a great weekend. It was about 900 miles on the bike. I'm glad I didn't chicken out and take the car. The bike didn't seem to be bothered by the rain or hail. The only thing I noticed was a little rust on the inside of the mufflers. I hope a little WD40 and steelwool take care of the rust. Of course the bike is very dirty and will be cleaned next weekend.
By the way, both the Dodgers and Angels have some work to do before the season starts.
