Default Speedometer Backlight Question

This is probably a really dumb question, so be nice.

I switched out the Speedometer on my 11' Heritage to the new Speedo/Tach Combo, part # 74774-11.

http://www.harley-davidson.com/gma/g...7&default=none

I've noticed that when I'm out riding and it's fairly light out, I cannot see the Backlighting for the Speedometer. I've got the color set to Green. It's not that it's just harder to see because of the daylight, it's actually off entirely.

When I pull back into the garage where it's darker, the Backlight comes back on.

Now I know the Dash Lights on cars have a light sensor, and that turns the dash lights off in the daytime, but I didn't think it worked that way on Bikes. I can't remember if the original Speedometer did this or not.

If there is a light sensor somewhere, I can't find it and I've looked in the Owners Manual and the Service Manual, but can't find anything that talks about the Backlighting shutting off in the daytime.

Do all bikes do this, or do I maybe have a problem with my new Speedo? Where is the Light Sensor located?

Thanks

Not too sure about a Heritage, but my Sportster has a light sensor right above my ignition. It dims and brightens my speedometer accordingly.

So you can actually see the sensor? If my Heritage has one, it's very well hidden. What year is your Sportster?

I thought the same thing at first, but the light is always on, you just can't see it unless it's dark enough outside.

Like I said though, freaked me out at first also.
