Today was pretty nice so I decided to take the cover off the bike for my first spring ride. I turned the key which started the fuel pump, but when I hit the start switch the engine didn't turn over. Instead all I heard was a clicking sound.
Can I assume that even though I had the battery on a tender all winter that it still did not have enough power to start the engine? Or do I have a more serious problem? BTW-The bike was running fine when I put it away for the winter. And my garage is not heated.
If its a 2009 & you have a WORKING tender plugged in I don't think the battery is bad. Most get 5-7 years out of a battery when a tender is used.If you have a volt meter check the battery's charge level. Should be 12.6-12.8 VDC if fully charged.
Was the battery tender plugged in to a continuous working plug... my buddy would plug his in and turn it on religiously every time he came back from a ride. Couldn't figure out why the battery wouldn't hold a charge over the winter... well... when he turned off the garage light and went into the house the plug turned off as well.....
