HOG Road Captain ?s

Geez, I'm a Road Captain, it says so right below my name. I didn't have to take a test, or join HOG or anything. I did have to register here and make 501 posts.

surely a fine organization like HOG has lots of generals, colonels, and majors that could answer your question. submit the proper request form in triplicate and someone will get back to you. road captain must be a pretty cushy job or they would have an enlisted man doing it.

Not sure why anyone wants to be a road captain. You would be the first to get sued when someone riding in your group crashes.

I heard it helps to have extensive experience in herding cats, but if you have the ability to lead 30-40 bikes in the fast lane at 10 mph under the limit...you're in.

Depends on the chapter what the requirements are. In my experience, I have seen chapters that have a book written that you must know. In others, if your a warm body and willing -- your in. It takes common sense and the willingness of the current board to set rules and expectations and then be willing to back them up.
One poster above said they needed First Aid Certification -- actually HOG guidelines in the past were against that as with that certification you were actually opening up more liability. Without it, the Good Samaritan Law protects you if you act in a prudent manner. The same with carrying a first aid kit, it doesn't hurt to have some band aids, cloths and gloves. But being too extensive isn't good either -- Most problems on rides will come from new riders riding over their abilities and not paying attention.

LOL! Don't pay much attention to the "HOG haters" -- I sometimes wonder what inadequacies they have in their own lives that cause them to feel the need to bash others. I usually just feel sorry for them.
Each chapter has its own requirements and expectations for Road Captains. In our chapter they have to be experienced riders who have demonstrated riding skills, they have to complete an initial training program, and they have to plan and lead at least one group ride each quarter.

They also have to know where every Golden Corral within a 50 mile radius of the dealership is.
50 mile in the maximum distance from the dealership allowed on a HOG ride.

You are forgetting the 'cell tower' phenomena. The distance requirement transfer from dealership to dealership to expand the ride distance.
