Yeah, it launched for me too. This is the 1st time that I've been to this site and frankly, I don't see much difference between it and Google maps or yahoo maps. Just for kicks I entered one of our popular ride destinations to see the route it would send us and it was horrible. (YES, I set it to avoid highways, etc.). Not scenic, through lots of towns w/red lights & traffic, etc., etc. Definitely not the relaxing country route with great twists & turns that we normally take.
Does anyone really use this site with favorable results??
Will Google or Yahoo maps allow you to download the route directly to your GPS? I've never used either so I do not know.
If they do not, then that is at least one advantage it has.

Nah, I doubt if you can upload 'em to your GPS. Although, why wouldn't you just plot a route right on your GPS? I just put a destination in mine and set it to avoid highways & toll roads. Maybe I've just been lucky, but I've gone on some really nice rides that way.

There's nothing wrong with allowing your GPS to plot a route. I've done that when my only goal was to get from point A to point B.
If you want to take specific roads or perhaps stop at a certain place for lunch, then using the GPS route becomes more problematic. If you don't follow the route you'll get constant recalculating reminders. If you want to go someplace off the route (such as a place to stop to eat that you want to try), you'll have to find your own way or plot another route just to there and then reload your original route.
The advantage of using the HD routing tool allows you to pick and choose the specific roads you want to take and then transfer that route to your GPS which will help guide you to your chosen roads.
Either way is fine. Just use the one that most fits your needs.
If you have a Garmin GPS, they come with a program called Mapsource that allows you to plot your own route on your computer and then transfer it to the GPS through a USB cable. See the video below. It works very similarly to the HD site.
