my transmission filler cap is Hex - 3/8
I have stopped at several stores looking for a hex bit that is short because the clearance between filler cap and oil line is Less then the length of my current hex bit.
Any ideas or info on where to find "short" hex bits?
I got a chrome plated that looks like a smaller version of the crankcase dipstick. If you don't want to heed either of these suggestions then buy a full length 3/8 allen wrench and cut it down to fit with a hack saw. If you go that route, then you will have a long section with a very short section after the curve and a piece to put in a 3/8 socket...your choice.
Cut off about an inch of 3/8 hex wrench use 3/8 box open to turn. Also could use a ratchet wrench.
Save the piece you cut off. Use it to 'spin' the plug off and on after you 'break' the plug loose then again to tighten it.
I did the same thing using a Biker Bill tool. I had a guy at the county shop cut it. He handed me the cut off end and I told him I didn't need it. He just smiled and said, 'Keep it, you will need it.'
Figgered out he knew what he was talking about later!
