I know when I was in the Corps, the Experienced RiderCourse was a requirement in order to ride a motorcycle on base.
I've taken it a couple of times over the years, but not for a while. I really want to take the Ride Like a Pro course or even a Motor Officer training course.
I took the advanced course in the military on a much lighter bike. I'm going to take the advanced course on the street glide to hone my skills and get more comfortable with a heavier bike. You don't know what your missing until you have taken one of these classes.
I bought a bike after a long dry spell of now having one only to learn that I needed a Motorcycle Endorsement to legally ride. In Oklahoma passing the MSF ARC waives the drivers test for the endorsement. I signed up for the course so I wouldn't have to hassle with having someone with an endorsement ride my bike to the DOT or trailer it there. That being said, I was very impressed with the quality of the course, I learned a lot, had a good time, and met some people to ride with.
Ride like a pro stuff is good. But you might want to buy some stock in brake pads and clutches. Yeah, it does work. But it will wear your parts out much quicker. No need to use it unless you need to.
The new ARC (Advanced Riders Course - Sportbike techniques) is a good class as well. It is the newest offering from MSF and goes beyond the ERC. Most of the students who have taken it this year and also done ERC's in the past say it is a much better and challenging course.
