Default Question about heated gear - rpm requirements

I just bought the HD heated jacket liner, and I'm a little confused by the instructions that speak about the rpm requirement for switching the gear on. It seems to me that the instructions are saying that 1500 rpm is safe for using all gear. If that's the case, I wouldn't know if I was running at that rpm because I don't have a tac.

So I guess the questions are, what rpm does a stock big twin idle at, and is it safe to switch this gear on while idling...or do I need to actually be moving. That doesn't seem to make much sense. Maybe one of you guys cam make more sense of these instrucitons (attached)
Also, have any of you used this heated gear? I'm going to try it out today. I didn't purchase the thermostat just because I want to see how well it works with just the on/off switch....before I spend another 100 bucks.
Thanks guys.

Todd

Just get some of that flexible pipe material from Lowe's and route the exhaust to a set of modified coveralls. Instant warm.

IOW, I dunno. Your bike idles below 1500 so it would need to be off if true.

Grunt that is funny, just don't have a hood under your helmet tucked into the jacket LOL

The heated vest and gloves sound tempting

Your bike is going to idle at around 1,000 rpms. Any riding at all, no matter the speed, is going to be over 1500 rpms. I would say(and I'm only guessing at this) that those few times you would be stopped at an idle would not cause you a problem.

Hopefully someone has a more exact answer for you.

I have a voltmeter on my bike so I can monitor my charging system. With the spotlamps off, which saves 60 watts, I can run two jacket liners with the thermostats on high and never notice the voltmeter move down during normal stop and go traffic.

BTW, I wasted money on the thermostats. My OL prefers the on and off switch. I usually run mine on high also. I could have gotten away without a thermostat and just regulated the heat with the switch and front zipper.

Thanks for the info guys. I just took a ride with the heated jacket on...it's about 48 degrees outside right now, and all I can say is WOW! I know for sure I would've been pretty chilly today without it. Today I was as toasty as I could be. And I purposely left the windshield off just to test it. I'm really happy I decided to get this. I just added at least another month or two to my riding season. My hands weren't cold, but I have a good pair of insulated gloves. In the near future I'll probably get the gloves as well. As far as my legs....they usually don't get too cold..but I may just get some chaps.

As far as the thermostat is concerned...I just have the on/off switch....and it was fine. I left it on the whole time and didn't overheat. I don't think I'm going to bother with the optional thermostat.

Thanks again.

best investment i ever made. just use on/off switch. i ride to work (21 miles, one way) all year, if dry. got the gloves last year. they extended riding to low 20s. when stopped, just reach down and turn off. you'll learn to do it without looking.

If one can afford heated grips, is that a good idea also. Its my hand that always freeze.
