Default RE: Jacket Question

I like Fox Creek for riding jackets and over pants. They are made here in the U.S. and the service is great. They use a good thick naked cowhide and the leather is comfortable from the get go.

I do not like Harley Leather at all, it's imported cheap leather and would be great for walking around the mall but just does not have the thickness of classic bike jackets. I'm not sure even the padded FXRG type are that safe in an accident. The pads are not Kevlar for example. I had the jacket and overpants last year and frankly I sold them both on ebay before this winter started.

I think Legendary has good quality (made by Schott). They use Front Quarter Horsehide but bear in mind that's some real thin skinned horses if that's the case. I just bought a Legendary Black Stallion simular to the old J-23 Buco for my daughter to use, it was too big and I sold it on ebay. I know that the Legendary ads claim they sell there's at $549.00 and others sell for a $1,000.00. Well the difference in cost is the craftsmanship and the Horsehide. Stuart (Lost Worlds Inc.) makes his out of real 4MM front Quarter Horse and you can tell the difference in the quality.

So if you want the best in the world and the absolute match to "Old School" go to www.lostworldsinc.com it'll blow you away, also if you want to see what real "old school" looks like go to www.vintagemotorcyclejackets.com and you'll see why both Lost Worlds and Aero Leather exist. These 2 companies strive to make the exact replicas of those jackets and they do a pretty good job of it too.

Aero Leather is in Scotland and they make jackets by hand as well. I really believe if you want "bullet proof Horsehide you can't find it thicker here. But bear in mind "break in" takes time with jackets like these they ain't mall jackets these are the real thing.

I have different ones depending. Favorite is an old Harley police style I've had since '78.

For warm weather I have a Joe Rocket mesh jacket. Nice and cool in the hottest temps, and armored for protection. For cooler temps I still have a heavy Schott leather jacket I bought 30 years ago. It's so well made it will probably last another 30 years.

I have a HD Nevada jacket. I'm 6' 3" and it came in a tall version. The sleeves provide good coverage to the wrist unlike the regular size jackets.

Got my jacket about a week ago. The thing weighs 11lbs. Thick leather, liner, just a fine jacket.

My first choice would be FoxCreek. I was wearing one in my last crash, so its got the free "suede" upgrade! Pre-crash it was also 1st class material all the way. (Its still functional, hopefully I'll lose enough weight to need a smaller size by spring).

If cash is tight, and it usually is, My last jacket before the FC was from www.Bikerleather.com [item BMJ210 ($139)]. Brass hardware, removable thinsulate liner, removable belt, side lacing. Since Korean leather is good enough for Harley, you might as well get the same jacket for 1/3rd the price. Probably come from the same factory.

Bikerleather's $18 "black leather gloves with gel & velcro" are the best fitting gloves I have ever owned. I prefer them to FoxCreek's $79 DeerTours, and have already purchased a new pair to use when my first pair wears out. (They survived the crash with minimal wear).

I have a few also.

I have a Harley Switchback Jacket which is fairly convertible and has armor in it, but might not be enough for really cold temps. I wear this one to ride to work in heavy traffic most of the time.

I have a Wilsons Leather Motorcycle Jacket. I actually love it. It has vents and a thick inner liner (was not super expensive)

I also ride with a really thin harley jacket (that's the one in my sig) no protection except that it is long sleeve, but very comfortable in mild weather (upper 60's/ lower 70's).

Hubby has the FXRG (non-leather) he really likes it and even uses the inner liner as a light jacket while riding or when he gets off the bike and doesn't want the heavier outer shell.
That thin jacket is pretty sexy looking there Bluerose! Might have to look at that for my wife! Actually I got her the thicker orange and white leather Harley jacket, it looks pretty sexy too!

Sexy ...hehehe. It actually is a really nice light weight jacket, but it's fabric. I'd buy it in leather if they had it. Considering buying another because next year they won't have the same one. I get caught buy that all the time[:@]

Check out Fox Creek Leather. They have great customer service, have some of the best products that I've ever seen and have a good selection to choose from. www.foxcreekleather.com
Thanks Sonar-Chris (the rest of you who mentioned foxcreekleather) I like what I see, hopefully Mrs Ts will hook me up between now and next spring.I like the V 1.8 Jacket even though it has a bit of sportbike rider look.
