There are many good jackets out there. Just make sure you buy something that has tight cuffs and close around the neck. The more pockets the better. Also, air vents to allow cooling as temps warm. A removeable tinsulate liner and some jackets come with neck liners.
I have a classic style jacket called "UNIK Premium". Its an import but appears to be well made, with heavy hide, and a removable liner, and fairly inexpensive. My last one was from Sears and it only lasted 28 years.
So I see a lot of $400 to $2000 jackets in response here? Jeez. I'd take the $2,000 and put it toward a bike mod. My leather jacket looks old school, is very heavy and has a removeable thinsolate liner. "Biker Club" made in Pakistan of all places. Fairly inexpensive. Only seen 40 - 75 degrees with it on so far, but no problem there.
One thing I miss though since my 70's USA made jacket was stolen. That one had a flap on the collar with a snap on it that folded across the top of the chest at the neck so that a scarf was not necessary. This flap also held the collars up around your neck.
I don't see this on ANY of the newer jackets. Maybe one of the retro $2,000 jackets has it. The scarf is ok, though.
My take on armor, and ready to get slammed. If you need armor drive a cage, don't ride a Harley. The cages are much safer.
Thanks guys...........I went with the Fox Creek Classic II, just got it today. The coat seems like real quality, very soft thick leather. Coat fits great too. To bad its raining out, i wanted to go ride
Thanks again for the advise
Glad to hear that you like the jacket. Its always nice to hear that when you give an opinion on something and someone else tries it out they are just as pleased as you are. Happy motoring with the new jacket.
I looked around quite a bit before I bought a legendary USA Beck 680. LOVE this JACKET. Kinda pricey but Made in USA, garanteed for life(or longer). I believe the hides are from Spain, they don't use barbed wire over there so little or no scarring.
