A lot of people who post on this subject do not know the difference between wind (clean air over the helmet) and turbulence and have no idea what you are talking about so post sarcastic, stupid comments like 'what do you expect when you ride a motorcycle' etc.

I struggled with this turbulence issue (helmet rattling so bad it gave me a headache and screwed up my vision) with my RG from the day I bought it and finally reduced it to a livable level by adding lowers (HoggChops) and a CeeBaily's SSC windshield.

The problem relates to the design of the RG fairing which puts the windshield too far forward to sit you in the protected 'pocket' so you get hit by the erratic, broken air that comes over the stock windshield (also a poor design). A shield like the CB's is stepped and so moves the calm pocket back towards the rider and allows you to get under the turbulent air.

You can resolve this issue so don't get discouraged.

ps: I love my Road Glide!

for the stock RK or Heritage shield, U'll need to get some fang's or like product. Most of the buffering does come from below the shield.

Try pulling your knees closer to the tank. On my bike that helps a lot. I'm serious.

Windshields for RG. I just bought a 2007. Had a HD Tall, it’s was horrible buffeting like crazy worst I’ve ever ridden, and I’ve ridden a lot in 40 years. I actually had the dealer take the windshield off completely, it was a massive improvement. The air around the helmet was at least clean. I tried a standard HD also poor, cut it down 4” still poor.
After some research tried the CB 15” better but it still suffered from the same problem. The fairing tries to punch through the air, then the bubble collapses in front of the riders helmet creating a vacuum and turbulance. I tried shimming the windshield out about an inch and it helped but it did not let enough air in. But there is a happy ending. I know many would not be happy with the looks. Madstad Engineering. It is a system with a base, a set of fully adjustable brackets and a shield. It flat works, after some adjusting no buffeting, no rattling the face shield, just clean air, perfect air balance and control. The system works like an Aero Shield for BMW allowing air under the shield and up like an airfoil. The HD wind wings, behind forks in front of tank helped a bit too. I fabricated some acrylic fairing extension below and connecting to the crash bars. That resolved the air coming up from the bottom past the fairing and around the tank. In New Mexico it’s common to ride 80-90 with lots of wind and cross winds. After reading dozens of posts I was ready to get rid of the bike, everyone saying no options live with it. “It’s a Motorcycle”, well yes it is, one with poor wind management. There is an answer that works, looks your call, but if comfort is what you seek. In New Mexico it’s common to ride 80-90 with lots of wind and cross winds. After reading dozens of posts I was ready to get rid of the bike, everyone saying no options live with it. There is an answer that works, looks your call, but if comfort and quiet is what you seek. Something that actually works, what a concept.

Pics of the Madstad shield and brackets. Mine is the taller one. They recommend the smaller, but I am used to looking through a shield and prefer that and the increased wind protection. It has a huge range of adjustment in height and angle. It might not be as pretty as the small swoopy ones, but it really works. It can be flipped over to look over it in the event of rain and the shield loosing visibility due to road grime.
If you can live with the look I've found it a near perfect balance. I'm comparing it to my GL1800 with a Tulsa, GL1500 with Tulsa, 2007 BMW K1200Gt with both Aero Shiels and a BMW K1200RS with several touring shields. This is now one of the best bikes I've ridden. Now for the suspension.
