I heard a rumor they were going to try to ban 18 wheelers from the Dragon

My brother and I were there the week before Labor Day. Wasn't bad at all, traffic or weather-wise (except for my being in that Joplin F5's crosshairs on the way there). We were out riding early, that made the biggest difference in traffic. We'd get back to the lodge, sleep then hit the mess hall. Tough life, eh?

Rode it all the time, I live about twenty minutes from it. Best time to ride is in the fall.

Rigs have always been technically "banned", but the occasional driver doesn't listen and thinks he can save some time on 129.

We were there the first week of June. Beautiful weather, but pack some rain gear. Go during the week. Weekends were crazy, with a strong LEO presence that enforced the speed limit.
As mentioned, more beautiful rides on the Skyway and toward Maggieville. Highway 64 along the bottom of NC and Tennesee is also a nice ride.
Watch out for the "Motards"!
