I live close to the tail. Best mid week and Now until the end of Oct is the best then spring. There are alot of great roads up here so do some reserch. The Iron Horse is close to the tail and the managment is real good about telling you about roads.
got back from there sunday have ridden it 6 times now... Its ok to do once so you can ay you have done it but as everyone says -- theres alot of nice riding trips in the same area that are alot more enoyable... Blue Ridge Parkway - Cherahola ( not spelled correctly) Skyway etc.... as also mentioned now till late fall the best time... if you wait too long in the morning theres alot of slick/damp fallen leaves on the road . and go mid week because all the crotch rocket idiots will be there on the weekends.. good luck
Will be there this Friday! Weather should be great. My 4th visit. Will be first time for my wife riding her Super Glide. We live about 220 miles from there. will take the Moonshiner 28 to get there.

You should really learn to spell before you start calling other people idiots.

Went last weekend and had a great time. Lots of bikes, but no problem with crotch rockets. Rode the Dragon and Cherahola on Saturday and took highway 28 home on Sunday. Weather was great.
I got a call from a buddy yesterday. He and his wife took trip last week and he went to a dealership to rent a Streetglide to do slay the dragon. He went on to tell me that right near the end, he leaned a little too far and laid the bike down. Nothing more than a broken ankle and some soreness. He said he was traveling only 20 mph and was very happy he was wearing his riding gear. His helmet did hit the pavement, fortunately he was wearing it.
Ride safe everyone.
Tae a look at the Tail Of The Draggon web site. they list the special events going on and when the car clubs will be there and special bike event weekends. Car clubs love to cruze up there and they do it in slo motion, try to miss thier event weekends. Mid week as said is great, low traffic, low LEO pressence, and all the fun is yours to have., Enjoy.
I have a place not far from Tellico Plains. Have ridden the Dragon too many times as anytime someone comes up that's the first thing they want to do.
Lot's of better riding in the area but at least the Dragon has beer now.

I'm from Bradenton, now living in Tellco. One thing not mentioned much is how beautiful the ride is from Rt 411 s. on 129 through the Dragon to the Cherohala Skyway is. It's a lot more that just the curves. By the way, the Dragon claims on average 1 death a month.
Have fun !
