Whats the advantages of an open primary ? as I like the look but don't really know what the reason is behind them.

Louder engine noise? They look great, but sound clunky at idle.

I think it is just a look's thing.
why would you ride with a open primary ?
rocks can get in it ,dry clutch, whirring parts around your pantleg?

Next will be open cam chest, and real high footpegs
to each his own ..

I like open Primarys....Had one on my Shovel back in the 80's.
Not all are noisey....You save weight, no inner or outer P cover....No heavy chain, unsprung weight....
No leaky Primary....
Of course back then I also took off my Starter, to much weight and I ran a Jocky top and suicide clutch....
Some opens have a small belt guard....You can also get the Belt that fits in your Primary, you just have to cut a lot of holes in it to keep your Belt cool....If done right they look good....
If I had the funds I would get one....Barnet has come out with a new one....Looks good.

I had to many pants legs in my bicycle chain to try an open primary. They do look cool though.
