I've been in 3 serious, bike totaling - ambulance riding accidents (1. Hadn't learned how to clutch, hit wall. 2. Hit deer at 55-60mph. 3. Hit by car at 55-60mph). Another three "D'oh! It fell over" accidents that didn't involve injury (I'm especially proud of #2. While tearing *** into a gas station the bike lost all traction on someone else's oil spill and I actually dismounted the bike while it was still crashing and remained on my feet the whole time. Imagine a good landing from the gymnastic uneven bars..... but the bars were moving at the time).
No. 1....Early 70's...Some bonehead in a huge brown Buick Electra pulls out in front of me and stops. There is nothing like flying over the handlebars and landing on a big ol' trunk
No. 2....April 14, 2003....Another knucklehead, this time in a white Ford Taurus decides he wants to be in my lane on I-75 just north of Atlanta. 70mph when I started to hit the brakes...Probably around 50 or so when I made contact with him. Don't remember much after that, other than a bunch of people hovering over me not letting me get up. Five days in hospital, three broken ribs, punched lung, various contusions, etc. Bike actually was in better condition than I was.
"0" motorcycle related, 1 car related, got hit from behind at a red light by a car traveling around 50 mph. I was stunned at first, but after I got my wits about me I wanted to meet the jerk that hit me. He was still half way out the windshield![] His insurance company paid me extra not to sue after they saw what was left of my 280zx turbo[:@]
A friend I was riding with partially lost control of his bike and swerved across my front wheel- I usually wore a helmet, but wasn't at the time of the accident.
Skull fracture, inner ear damage with 40% hearing loss, broken clavicle. My left shoulder took most of the impact,my head the rest.If you aren't wearing a helmet, that's crazy.
Leather jacket saved me from some major abrasions....
