hopefully soon my dad will have a sg and I may have a stc. we were looking at going to the tail of the dragon and camping out sometime this summer. with the luggage rack and saddle bags and all would we have enough room to fit the tent and all the camping gear? never attempted any kind of trip like this but i am really hoping we can do it.
I have a few coworkers that travel all over the country and camp. I like a nice bed in a hotel at the end of a long day - but I'm getting old. The guy below only needed a bottle of booze and a head tent.
Not much different than back packing when it comes to camping gear and I would bet you can get more gear on your motorcycle than you can carry on your back unless your the Hulk
I don't have saddle bags, just a sissy bar and rack. I go on week-long camping/fishing trips all the time. Plenty of room, but no room for a passenger, of course.

Sure you can... Here's a pic of my "hillbilly pack", good for a couple of weeks (at least). T-bag provides a great back rest; the blue thing stuffed between the handlebars and windshield is my rain gear.
You should have no problem. If you are looking to buy gear get backpacking gear. I like REI stuff though it can be spendy. Backpacking equipment is usualy lighter and packs smaller tha K-mart camping gear.
Try the search function. There have been many posts on camping off a bike. Photo shows mine, equipped for multi-day trips. But I'm adding hardbags and Tour-Pak.

If you want to spend the money, they make some really light camping gear these days that packs really small, leaving room for the other stuff you might want on the trip. Be prepared for cool temps at high elevations, especially if you ride the Cherohala.

REI gear may be spendy, but it is good. And you have the lifetime return policy on their stuff.
